Obesity is a known risk factor for many health problems, such as metabolic, cardiovascular, and mental disorders, as well as cancer. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among adults in France during 2003, the physiopathology of obesity, and the genetic and psychosocial risk factors for obesity are discussed in this paper.
