Authors have attempted to define the concept of body image, discussing how it is formulated through the interplay of a complex series of dynamic psychosocial influences which grow, alter and adapt to natural changes in the body and psyche over time. This review considers concepts of altered body image (ABI) and related models, and suggests how they might be applied to patients with chronic wounds.
