Colostrum samples were collected periodically from a pregnant primiparous Caucasian woman from 75 days before until 3 days after parturition and were tested for non-specific inhibitor (NSI) of influenza virus. 6 phases of NSI excretion were observed; elevated levels occurred in 3 phases prior to parturition in addition to the elevated level found at parturition in previous studies [DSA 33, 325]. The pH of colostrum was at a min. of 6.7 on the day of parturition. The possibility that significant changes in colostral NSI titre are a reflection of physiological processes which have occurred during foetal development is briefly discussed.
