The prescription of griseofulvin as a pharmaceutical benefit in South Australia

The aspects of prescribing griseofulvin considered in this paper are: (1) an analysis of applications received and authorities issued; (2) the figures for claims for medical benefit items; and (3) observations on the dermatophytes isolated in S. Australia. Epidermophyton floccosum was isolated 27 times, Trichophyton rubrum 68, T. mentagrophytes 30 and Microsporum canis 39 times. The hair and/or scalp was involved more times than any other part of the body (12 of 32).
