Type I diabetes often raises therapy problems because the patients compliance is related to the insulin injections needed all life long. In these circumstances, the authors review a new therapeutic option--inhaled insulin. In order to be convincing about this future treatment, the article reviews: the history of the discovery, pharmacokinetic aspects, results of clinical studies and patients adherence to this new kind of substitution treatment of human insulin deficiency.
