Four male, domestic shorthair cats, genetically related, had primary lesions in the radioulnar and radiocarpal joints, diagnosed as lytic lesions of bone and treated accordingly. Secondary manifestations included metastatic lesions in the lungs which produced acute respiratory failure. The primary lesions were all apparently healing at the time the cats died. Microscopic studies showed metastases in the lung, liver, spleen, and lymph nodes of all the animals. This reticulum-cell sarcoma contained viral particles, identified by electron microscopy and grown in tissue culture. Passage into unrelated cats produced the same type of tumor.
