Incidence of Demodex folliculorum in normal urban population in Kaduna (Nigeria)

In 1968-71, 2394 normal people in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria, were examined for the presence of Demodex folliculorum (Simon). Samples were taken from the sebaceous glands of the nose and its surroundings and from ear wax. The incidence of infestation was 0.7% among those 0-9 years old, 10.8% among those 10-14, 4.4% among those 15-19, 4.2% among those 20-29 and 3.3% among older people. Infestation varied with the ethnic group of the people but not with the sex.
