Many herbicides are included in a report on the gas chromatography of 95 nitrogen containing pesticides using a nitrogen specific detector (Tracor Coulson electrolytic conductivity detector operating in the nitrogen mode). A 6 ft X 4 mm glass column was packed with 10% DC-200 on 80/100 mesh Chromosorb W (HP). Operating conditions were: (temperatures in deg C) column 180, injection port 225, combustion furnace 850, furnace inlet 275; helium carrier gas and hydrogen combustion gas 80ml/min; detector voltage 30 v; recorder 1mv. The column was conditioned with Silyl 8. Retention times relative to parathion are given together with the amount of pesticide (ng) required for a 50% full scale deflection (FSD) of the recorder. As examples, 5-ng amounts of atrazine and prometon, 10ng of ametryne and prometryne, 35 ng of diuron, 100 ng of linuron, 15 ng of dichlobenil and metobromuron, and 50 ng of tri-allate all gave 50% FSD.
