Denatured proteins were used in preference to native ones by Bothriocephalus scorpii from fish and by Diphyllobothrium dendriticum from birds. Moniezia expansa from mammals used both native and denatured ox blood plasma proteins at the same rate, implying that native proteins are well assimilated only when homologous to the host. High value proteins (blood plasma proteins and casein) were preferred to low value ones, although proteins, untypical to the host metabolism are also badly assimilated by the cestode whilst low value ones are used if specific to the host.
