Tympanopuncture was made with a needle having a step gradation to its thin end. Such a needle abates traumaticity of this manipulation and extends its applicability. The above modification was called by the author microtympanopuncture. The review of 7000 cases of microtympanopuncture is given. indications for this procedure and its possible complications are outlined. Microtympanopuncture can be made in outpatient setting and therefore must find wider application.
