Changes in thyroid blood flow were measured in dogs by a method based on the principle of measuring apparent heat conductivity in living tissues. It was found that intravenously administrated TSH prevented a decrease of thyroid blood flow in untreated dogs and increased it in thyroxine pretreated animals, but had no effect on either renal or adrenal blood flow. The blood flow increased 60 to 90 minutes following the injection of TSH, when the PB131I concentration in the thyroid venous blood approached its maximum. The data suggest that this increase of thyroid blood flow by TSH is brought about by the increased metabolism of the thyroid gland.
