Our societies are becoming more complex all the time; we have received a great number of immigrants and the health professional can not remain aside from this reality. The authors present a cross cultural interview as an instrument by which a health professional is conscious of his/her limitations as an individual inserted into a cultural system and who tries to approach the reality of the other, the immigrant for example, beginning with a perception of this difference. Only in this fashion can one succeed in understanding the perspective of these patients who live in another cultural universe.
