Streptokinase-streptodornase in the treatment of minor injuries

Sixty patients with minor injuries (sprains, contusions, haematomas and ecchymoses) were treated with a streptokinase-streptodornase tablet ('varidase') given orally. Each tablet contained 1o,000 units of streptokinase and 2,500 units of streptodornase. The dose was one tablet four times daily for five days. Patients were matched, as far as possible, with an untreated (control) group of 6o patients. Forty-nine of the 6o treated patients (82 per cent.) improved in the first week, compared with 17 (28 per cent.) of the 6o control patients. There is a statistically significant difference between the results of the two groups, favouring the treated group. Only one patient in the treated group developed a side-effect (nausea).
