Lipolytic activity of the small intestine and fat absorption in patients with arteriosclerosis

In 18 patients with coronary atherosclerosis lipase activity was higher and in 19 with cerebral atherosclerosis activity was lower than normal. In patients fasting values for total lipids, phospholipids, total cholesterol and triglycerides in serum were higher than in normal subjects. A load of 1 g butter/kg bodyweight increased triglyceride values more in normal subjects than in the patients, the smallest increase being in those with coronary atherosclerosis.
