Erythematous papules on the skin after pine needle puncture in a patient receiving corticoid treatment

A case is reported in a 72-year-old man from Spain , with a history of diabetes, arterial hypertension and chronic bronchitis, who presented with a cutaneous papulo-erythematous lesion on the right forearm at the site of an accidental puncture injury with a pine needle. A biopsy was performed and histological examination showed granulomatous dermatitis and rectilinear hyphae. Culture samples grew Alternaria alternata. The patient was treated with oral itraconazole (400 mg/day) for 2 months.
