An intraoral acrylic splint is an excellent method for repair of mandibular body fractures rostral to the mandibular first molar tooth. This technique satisfies the basic objectives of oral fracture repair: occlusive alignment, reasonable stability, neutralization of the forces on the fracture line, minimal/no soft tissue disruption, preservation of teeth and tooth roots, immediate return to function and promotion of secondary bony union. Finally, the splint can be removed following fracture healing without disturbing the soft tissues of bone. Multiple cases and examples are presented to provide the clinician with guidelines for the application of intraoral acrylic splints, step-by-step.
