Effects of Cu and As on germination and seedling growth of crops

A solution-culture experiment was carried out to explore effects of Cu and As on the germination and seedling growth of crops. The results showed that Cu or As pollution could reduce the activities of protease and diastase, inhibit the seedling growth and the respiration rate of germinating seed of soybean. The inhibition was strengthened with the increase in the concentrations of Cu and As. However, the activity of POD was increased with the concentrations of Cu and As in the exposed solution.
