The alanine-transaminase (ALT) threshold for screening blood units is not homogeneous in italian blood centers and this phenomenon produce a great variability in the donor-acceptance rate. The standardization of ALT cut-off level, unifying the statistical methods to calculate the threshold of acceptance, would decrease the variability between centers.
