This article is dedicated to the group of individualists who, although victims of advanced periodontal disease, wish to retain their teeth without loss of health or appearance. In the past, attempts to treat advanced periodontitis by surgical methods such as gingivectomy have often so depleted the periodontal tissues that many patients would prefer dentures to the disfigurement of their mouths. Such methods also have denied the possibility of reconstruction. Present-day aims of periodontal treatment include not only the elimination of sepsis but also the restoration of physiological form and function of periodontal tissues and of an aesthetically acceptable appearance. An effort to fulfil these aims is described in this article. The method described contains some little originality, but mainly consists of a mixture of some of the best current practices.
