In 1966-1968 transmission of malaria was stopped nearly in the entire territory of the USSR. Occasional foci of malaria remained only in the south of the country, the majority in the Georgian and Azerbaijan republics. Active foci of malaria are in the zone where the density of the vector has increased, exophilia in mosquitoes was observed and some defects were made in carrying out malaria control measures. In 1966, 323 patients with malaria and parasite carriers were reported (in 1969 there were 3169 of them), in 1967 289 and in 1968 284 subjects. The percentage of cases imported from abroad was 58.1 in 1966, 60.2 in 1967 and 55.3 in 1968. All the four species of malarial plasmodia were imported. Local cases were with P. vivax and some cases with P. malariae. In the past three years 42 cases of induced quartan malaria were detected. The number of malaria foci settlements with local or imported cases was 96 in 1966, 91 in 1967 and 85 in 1968, including only with cases imported from abroad 39. In 1966-1968 measures for eradication of malaria in foci continued to be carried out and preventive measures in the rest of the territory were also performed: In order to provide stable eradication of malaria it is necessary to continue regular and accurate realization of the plan of preventive measures, made with due consideration to local epidemiological conditions.
