The Schalm test and health-and-in-order guarantee

The author suggests that the Schalm test should not be used in cattle-dealing as a guarantee of a sound and healthy cow since, although it helps establish the animal's condition at the time of sale, there is no evidence so far that the test has further significance. Its use at present should be restricted to the detection of individual animals responsible for high cell counts in herd milk.
