Dental diseases have proliferated in every age group without abatement. The risk of developing diseases of the oral cavity increases when nutritional health is compromised, masticatory efficiency is depressed, oral cleansing is lax, and sugars and starches are consumed to excess. The effects of sugar and nutritional deficits on oral tissues are discussed and a program emphasized throughout the world to reduce the incidence of oral health problems due to sugar excess is considered.
