Some reflections on food security in India

This Presidential Address, which was delivered at the 59th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics held at Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) in December 1999, discusses broadly the concept of food security and its relevance to the Indian context during the last decade. It highlights the various indicators of food security both at the individual and household levels and analyses the food security issues. Finally the different strategies for attaining food security are suggested.
