Leptin's implications in reproduction: current understandings

A review discussing the relationship between leptin and reproductive processes (regulation of steroid hormones and gonadotrophin concentrations) is presented. It is suggested that leptin enhances the reproductive tract. Suggested mechanisms by which leptin may affect hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis includes hypothalamic neuropeptide Y expression and presence of receptors in the ovaries.
