In reports on EPPO conferences brief mention is made of the need for the determination of nematode densities in the study of crop rotation problems under annual crops, reported at the conference in Paris in 1974, and an indication is given of success achieved in the breeding of cereals resistant to Heterodera avenae and in knowledge of the behaviour of nematode populations (Conference on Pathological Organisms in Cereal Monoculture, Gembloux, 1975). The recommendations issued by the latter conference include one encouraging the work of the international group studying the identification of H. avenae pathotypes and suggesting that it should be sponsored by EPPO or another appropriate international agency.
