We have been using cisternal irrigation therapy with urokinase (UK) and ascorbic acid (As A) for prevention of symptomatic vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and excellent results were obtained [3]. In this therapy, Uk is used to dissolve the residual clot and As A is added to degenerate oxyhemoglobin (Oxy-Hb), one of the strongest spasmogenic substances [4]. Previous experimental studies [1, 5] revealed the effect of As A in degenerating Oxy-Hb. The present study intends to evaluate the effect of As A in clinical cases by measuring Oxy-Hb concentration of drained fluid sequentially.
