Three letters respond to the report by Taubes in the March 30 issue on the role of dietary fat consumption in coronary heart disease (CHD). The first letter claims that Taubes did not appropriately identify saturated fatty acids as the primary dietary factor that contributes to CHD development. The second letter points out that the reduction of saturated fat is still central to appropriate nutrition policy. The third letter contends that, whereas Taubes focused on scientists who do not believe that dietary fat has an important role in combating obesity and cardiovascular disease, he did not consider the critical evidence linking fat with obesity and CHD. A reply is published.
