Embryopathy induced by oral anticoagulants

The case of a child whose mother was treated with oral anticoagulants (acenocoumarin) during her pregnancy is reported. The patient had nasal and midface hypoplasia, prominent occiput and shortened distal phalanges. Skeletal X-Rays showed stippling of the left femoral head and left fifth metacarpal. Previously reported cases are reviewed and the pathogenesis, differential diagnosis and risks of this syndrome are discussed.
