A practical device for weighing insecticides in malaria eradication programmes

In view of the importance of accurate measurement of the insecticide in large-scale anti-malaria programmes, where gravimetric measurements are to be made by field personnel it is essential to have an accurate, portable, durable and inexpensive weighing device. Although such instruments may be available in some countries, and may be readily adapted to malaria programme use, the authors could find no such device in Mexico. A special Roman balance was therefore designed, making use of simple materials available in any large city. Models of this device, with slight modifications, have been in field use in Mexico for more than two years without loss of accuracy.
