Of the report published in Official Records of the W. H. O., No. 15, excerpts on new considerations, availability of drugs, therapy, serological standardization and laboratory aspects are reprinted. The use of penicillin curtails the infectious stages, 95% of treated pregnant patients having healthy babies. Gonorrhea, through effective therapy, is now an innocuous infection. The limited availability of the antibiotic is the outstanding restricting factor in venereal disease control, penicillin G being recommended. Cardiolipin-lecithin antigens appear valuable in sero-diagnosis, and adequate quantities may soon be available.
