In E. Nigeria there is a growing migration of people from overcrowded to sparsely populated rural areas. The reason is generally a relative or absolute lack of land in the migrant's native area as a result of overpopulation, soil erosion, flooding during part of the year, etc. The areas of immigration either have more land than at present needed by the local population, or else offer work which the local people will not undertake, such as collecting and processing oil palm fruits.
