The morphological and habitat characteristics of the most common allergenic insects such as Apis mellifera, Bombus spp., Vespula spp., Dolichovespula maculata and Solenopsis, are discussed. The clinical reactions to insect stings are outlined and diagnostic methods used to identify the specific causative agent in an insect allergy are given. The immediate and long-term therapy for reactions to insect stings are discussed.
