With the use of the oral contraceptives, these risks are small. In the normal healthy female there are no known contraindications to the use of the oral contraceptives. Some women, particularly those with certain liver dysfunctions, should not use these substances. When prescribing any method of contraception, the effectiveness, acceptability and safety against the known hazards of pregnancy to the patient and, to her family and society should be considered.
