Four dogs with gait anomalies are presented: two patients with lameness and two with hypermetry. In two of the patients an additional paraparesis was observed. Diagnosis was made using neurological examination, electrodiagnostic procedures, T4-determination and TSH- or TRH-stimulation tests. In two cases a nerve and/or muscle biopsy provided further information. Three dogs were successfully treated with L-Thyroxin, and have been symptom-free for more than 5 years. In the case of the fourth patient, paraparesis was greatly improved, laryngeal paralysis only slightly. The megaesophagus was totally unaffected.
