A letter responds to the report by Loots and colleagues in the April 7 issue on the identification of a coordinate regulator of interleukins (ILs) 4, 13, and 5 using cross-species sequence comparisons. Loots and colleagues report that they did not find binding sites for transcription factors that are known to control the expression of IL-4 and IL-13 in conserved noncoding sequence 1 (CNS-1) based on searches of the Transcription Factor Database. However, a search of the same database for these factor-binding sites in CNS-1 produced one conserved consensus GATA-3 binding site and 2 NF-AT binding sites in the published sequence. A reply is published.
