A letter addresses Cohen's February 11 article on management of the rhesus supply. The letter holds that the problem of availability of Indian-origin rhesus macaques in AIDS research highlighted by Cohen must be viewed at a national level, not as the problem of a single institution. In addition, the letter maintains that the population of rhesus macaques in the U.S. must be viewed as a whole rather than as subpopulations of other animals.
