Ambulatory surgery in the hospitals of Tunis, future perspectives

The practice of ambulatory surgery in the city of Tunis, Tunisia, was assessed in March 2000, by questionnaire sent to 8 heads of general surgery departments in hospitals in the region. Responses were received from 4 health services, reporting an average of 10 ambulatory surgeries performed per week (range 4 to 30 operations per week). It is concluded that ambulatory surgery has a place in general surgery services in Tunisia.
