Vascularized illiac bone grafts and reconstruction of the mandible

To investigate method of reconstructing large mandible defects. Seven cases of mandibular defects were reconstructed with vascularied illiac bone grafts supplied by circumflex illiac vessels and Bränemark osseointegration implants immediately. Six months after operation, X-rays showed osseointegration between implants and graft bone. After 6 months to 36 months of follow-up, all implants were stable and no radiolucency was found and the functions were satisfactory in mastication, pronunciation and facial contour. Reconstruction of large mandible defects by vascularized illiac bone grafts supplied by circumflex illiac vessels and Bränemark osseointegration implants immediately is promising.
