In this review, consideration is given to the effect of immunization with gonadotropins on male reproduction, the effect of gonadotropin deprivation on the male reproductive system in neonatal and juvenile animals and on ovulation, and the dependence of neonatal ovarian development on gonadotropins. The advantages of using immunological methods to elucidate the interrelationships between hormonal control centres and their target tissues are outlined, but it is considered that the disadvantages, which are listed, of using such methods outweigh the advantages.
