A preliminary screening of the antifertility effect of 9 indigenous drugs on rats and guinea pigs is reported. Mallotus philippinensis and Punica granatum reduced the fertility rate when given orally. The former disturbed the estrous cycle in such a way that the animals failed to mate. The effect was reversible when the drug was withdrawn. Mating resulted in pseudopregnancies in the case of P. granatum. The other drugs were ineffective.
