Sterilization in performed in the male for therapeutic reason and its possible consequences

In order to observe some late effects of sterilization in men, 86 postprostatectomy patients, divided into 2 groups (with vasoligature and without) were observed. All the patients had an active sexual life before the operation. Only 18% of the vasoligature patients retained potency 4-5 years after the operation; 55.6% of the other group also retained potency over the same period. It is impossible to draw conclusions from the clinical material presented; therefore, observation of sterilized men up to the period of the presenium or to their 6th decennium, when ''exhaustion'' of the organism begins to bring about premature disorders of sexual activity, is recommended.
