NCI asked to increase focus on minorities

An Institute of Medicine panel recommends that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) focus more attention on minorities. The panel's 272-page report entitled "The Unequal Burden of Cancer" asserts that the NCI is not spending as much as it claims on studies of minorities. The panel also rejects the use of standard racial categories when gathering mortality and incidence data in favor of the collection of data in ethnic or cultural categories.
