Atonic bladder in lumbar disk herniation

On 42 patients with lumbar disk herniation a simple retrograde cystometric examination was carried out. As compared with a normal series, a larger quantity of physiological saline solution could be injected into the bladder of the patients with disk herniation before they felt a normal desire to void or a painful urge. In 14 out of 36 patients the residual urine was over 20 ml, and in 3 of these over 300 ml, and yet none of these patients had spontaneously reported any disturbance of micturition
