Standards of HIV care change to reflect new treatments and new technologies. Many of the studies cited here represent cost shifting rather than true cost savings. Either way, managed care organizations and HIV providers need to keep up with evolving standards of care, incorporate new treatments and technologies, and find ways to reconcile quality and good outcomes, all while managing the high costs of care.
