A field survey was carried out in 1967 in Shubra el Gedida, a delta community of 6, 000 people, to determine how the mass media messages reach the population of villages to identify mediators of information, and to assess the relation between mass media exposure and political awareness. The data show that 48 per cent. of the sample acquired their information on three policy issues directly through the mass media, whereas 37 per cent. only heard of them orally from news mediators.
