To establish a method to determine the content of vanillic acid in Rhizoma Picrorhizae. The content was determined by dual wavelength TLC-scanning. The peak area of vanillic acid is reproducible in 4 hours; recovery 96.5%; RSD-3%; RSD of duplicate experiment-5%. A thin-layer chromatographic scanning method has been developed for determining the content of vanillic acid. The method is reproducible, workable and reliable.
