The irregularly stored refuse is extremely defiler. At the historical City of Paranagua, located in the coastal line of the Parana State, in Southern Brazil, urban refuse is a critical issue; garbage is being stored at open sky. As the elimination of domestic refuse is a fact causing serious problems in a good number of countries, what could be said about the elimination of refuse in historical cities like Paranagua? The city is located within an area of greater ecological interest, facing a lagoon shaped estuary complex, crammed with rivers, bays, islands and mangroves. In this sense, the present article has the purpose of alerting to the problem of water contamination, by non-processed refuse contamination that may affect the sea, and, consequently withdrawing tourists and affecting the local economy. The data were treated by content analysis resulting in a few number ideas for the solution of this issue, as well as actions of environmental education, that may settle the problem.
