Vasectomy is described with anatomical and physiological illustrations. 210,000 vasectomies were performed between 1962 and 1973 in Korea in government programs, with another 90,000 men sterilized by private physicians via vasectomy. It is estimated that 1 million births (unwanted) were averted by vasectomy in Korea. Spontaneous recanalizations of the vas deferens have been seen in .1% to 6% of the operations; the failure rate was .8%. A technique of killing residual sperm in the distal ductal system is described. No change in sexual behavior occurred in 80% of the subjects. Vasectomy is recommended for its safety, accuracy, simplicity, cheapness, and effectiveness. Reversible vas occlusion with an intravasal thread is described.
