Investigators at King George's Medical College in Lucknow, India began a study using urea solution as a contraceptive agent in May 1971. 70 women have become acceptors so far. The solution (N/10) was prepared by dissolving 6 gm of urea in 1000 ml of distilled water. Women were taught to soak cotton tampons in the solution, insert them intravaginally at the time of intercourse, and remove them the next morning. Huhner tests were performed in 32 cases and confirmed the efficacy of the solution as a contraceptive. No local complications such as vaginal irritation or discharges were seen.
