Journal editors and medical societies in the United Kingdom are advocating the creation of a national body to investigate allegations of fraud and other misconduct and to promote good research practice. The call for a body to tackle fraud comes from the authors of a recent report by the Committee on Publication Ethics, an alliance of medical journal editors that was founded to discuss growing concerns about the lack of clear guidelines on how to address breaches of research and publication ethics. Britain's General Medical Council, which registers the country's doctors, will make a similar call for a national watchdog body in its own report later in the year.
